We serve 4,000+ individuals and families annually. In 2024, we had over 18,000 completed appointments, with over 500 new client referrals.

The Arc of the Ozarks offers multidisciplinary autism evaluations that are tailored to each patient's unique needs. Our thorough evaluation process includes three appointments to develop individualized support during and after the process. Once all required paperwork is completed, a patient will be added to a scheduling list based upon several factors, including referral date, age of the patient, the completeness of support documentation, and current availability. The most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 1 in 36 children has autism (2.8%). The healthcare field has adapted slowly overall, resulting in waitlists for services nationwide.

There are several things that a family can do while they wait for an evaluation. 

1. Free parent training from the world health organization

2. First Steps provides early intervention services for families with children from birth to age 3.  The program is designed to meet the needs of families related to enhancing their child’s development, learning and participation in family and community life. Call 866-583-2392 to be connected to the SPOE in your area.
3. If your child is over the age of three, connect with your local school district and request a formal evaluation. Federal law requires the local education agency to perform a free assessment to determine if any child between 35 months and 21 years of age has a disability. The initial evaluation must be completed no later than 60 days after receiving written consent.
